The Transcontinental and Pichi Richi Explorer both depart Quorn at 10.30am and travel as a double header to Woolshed Flat. The Transcontinental continues to Port Augusta and passengers have plenty of time to enjoy lunch or visit the many attractions before departing Port Augusta at 2.30pm for a 4.30 arrival in Quorn. Double heading occurs only a few times a year and requires skilled techniques and careful cooperation between the engine crews. Double heading simply means using two locomotives at the front of a train, with each locomotive operated individually by its own crew.
