Welcome to the Pichi Richi Railway

ImagePichi Richi Railway is an operating museum, operating regular heritage train journeys on the oldest remaining section of the famous narrow-gauge old Ghan railway.

Pichi Richi Railway is located at Quorn, in South Australia's Flinders Ranges. Trains depart from Quorn and Port Augusta. The railway is operated, maintained and managed by its dedicated volunteer members.

Quorn Race Day - 7 June 2008

ImageOn June 7 the Afghan Express will combine with the Pichi Richi Explorer at Woolshed Flat and provide a rare double header back to Quorn.

Once in Quorn you can join in the chaos and fun of Quorn’s annual picnic races.

The Afghan Express departs Port Augusta at 10.30pm, arriving in Quorn at 12.15pm.

Pichi Richi Marathon - 29 June 2008
Held on 29 June 2008, the Pichi Richi Marathon is considered by many to be one of the region’s major sporting events.  With runners and walkers moving from Port Augusta to Quorn the event attracts interstate and overseas competitors.  Being the only marathon to be held in rural South Australia it is considered by many to be one of the best marathon events around!

Winter Christmas Special - 26 July 2008

Depart Port Augusta Railway Station on Saturday July 26th for some wintry yuletide cheer at the Old Willows Bresery Restaurant.  Price includes the train journey and a traditional three course Christmas feast.

Departs Port Augusta Railway Station at 10.30am and returns at 4.30pm.

Quorn Show Day - 14 September 2008

Travel in style from Port Augusta to the annual Quorn Show on Sunday 14 September 2008.  Experience the unique style of a genuine country show with showground rides, horse events, rural cooking and more.

The Afghan Express departs Port Augusta at 9.30am, arriving in Quorn at 11.15am.

Coffee Pot update

ImageNoted Australian businessman Mr Dick Smith AO has recently donated $5,000 to the Society, to assist with the project to replace the Coffee Pot's boiler, which is currently underway. The Society has sent a formal letter of thanks to Mr Smith.

The latest donation follows on from an earlier donation of $3,000 made by Mr Smith while the Coffee Pot lottery was in progress during 2007.
