MEDIA RELEASE

Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society is proud to release its 2005 Timetable Brochure, with new innovations, more trains, and the ever popular Coffee Pot celebrating its 100th anniversary.

“We’re very excited about this year’s timetable,” said the Society’s President, Mr Philip Mellors, “it really offers something for everyone, from shorter family trips, full day excursions and the luxury experience on the Coffee Pot.”

“The Afghan Express, from Port Augusta to Quorn (return) will run every Saturday from Easter until the end of November. We have put a lot of work into improving the experience, and passengers will now receive information flyers on the journey, and there will be activity packs for the children. At $48 Adults, $16 for children and $112 for a family of four, it’s great value.”

The family favourite Pichi Richi Explorer from Quorn to Woolshed Flat features heavily on long weekends and school holidays, with other services throughout the year, and the popular Wizards Explorer will also make its return.

Mr Mellors said an exciting innovation for Pichi Richi Railway this year is the Crossover Days.

“Every month (from March to October) the heritage diesel Barwell Bull railcar departs Quorn at the same time as a steam heritage Afghan Express departs Port Augusta. Passengers can ‘mix and match’ their journey by changing trains at Woolshed Flat and having a short journey on two different trains, or a full day, the possibilities are almost endless.”

Steam Motor Coach No 1, affectionately known as the Coffee Pot, makes a welcome return this year to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Pichi Richi Railway will be running luncheon specials, travelling from Quorn Railway Station to the Old Willows Brewery Restaurant for a delicious lunch, then continuing on to Woolshed Flat before returning to Quorn. The fare will include 2 course lunch, afternoon tea & a souvenir coffee mug. Luncheon specials run on April 24, July 9 & 10, & September 17 & 18.
