MEDIA RELEASE Thanks to the 'get things done' leadership of the City of Port Augusta, the Pichi Richi Railway is back in business. A deal has been stitched up to help the volunteer Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society Inc obtain the public liability insurance cover essential for the tourism icon to keep running trains between Port Augusta and Quorn in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. Supporters of the deal include: - The City of Port Augusta
- The Flinders Ranges Council
- NRG Flinders
- Lorenzo Duregon, Betta Homes Supplies - Mitre 10 Port Augusta
The members of the Society are overjoyed at this last minute reprieve, and even now are getting the locomotive fired up and the train back on the tracks for this weekend's scheduled trains. The Transcontinental will steam out of Quorn at 10am Saturday July 6 for a return run to Port Augusta. That will be followed by the operation of two Pichi Richi Explorer steam trains on Sunday July 7 departing Quorn at 10am and 2pm for return trips to Woolshed Flat. Trains will then run as already advertised for the remainder of the School holidays and for the rest of the year. Well done and thank you from the Pichi Richi Railway membership and Executive Committee to the City of Port Augusta, the Flinders Ranges Council, NRG Flinders and Betta Homes Supplies - Mitre 10 Port Augusta.
