In 2010, Pichi Richi Railway welcomes back the Transcontinental. Reliving the days when a journey from Adelaide to Perth involved changing trains no less than 4 times, with 3 track gauges, in 2010 we have taken the inconvenience out, and you can stay on one train from beginning to end.
The journey starts in Quorn, departing at 10.30am, and your train double heads with the Pichi Richi Explorer to Woolshed Flat. After a brief stop, the Transcontinental continues to Port Augusta, arriving in time for lunch. There is ample time for a stroll around the nearby area, including a range of food outlets, before the 2.30pm departure back to Quorn.
- Quorn to Port Augusta and return (78km)
- 6 hours
- No refreshments on-board, however several outlets are within 10 minutes walk of Port Augusta station
- Service departs Quorn at 10:30am, and arrives at Port Augusta at approximately 12:15pm. The return journey then departs Port Augusta at 2:30pm, arriving at Quorn at approximately 4:10pm
- The Transcontinental service originates from Quorn
